Jeff Byrd grew up in the Southside of Birmingham in Greensprings between Titusville and Homewood. Attending Birmingham City Schools and Homewood extracurricular activities allowed Jeff to experience two different worlds and to ponder why are those worlds different? One word: Exposure. Through chess, Jeff has been exposed to so many different elements that he would not have been had it not been for his mother's search for knowledge and education outside of the norm and his dad's commitment to practice together. Jeff brings that same approach to the many different students he works with today, focusing in the inner-city and urban students.
